just for Christmas!
I’m Caroline, founder of Hedyn Aur. and I love good food! I have always had a passion for great food and having worked as a nurse for over 20 years, I know the importance that wholesome, unadulterated food has in promoting good health. More specifically the search for a quick but nutritious snack on the go, that was not the ubiquitous sandwich or sweet flapjack made me experiment with different recipe ideas. I was also looking for a cracker that could be eaten instead of bread with any topping at any time of day. I think I cracked it!
Success at the 2021 Great Taste Awards...
2 stars each for the Original and Laverbread crackers! What the judges said....
“What attractive yet rustic looking crackers. Very generous on the seeds and a beautiful crunch/ snap when broken”
“These attractive rustic crackers have a generous seeding, a fantastic snap and a long lingering flavour that balances the seeds, the salt and the inherent sweetness with consummate skill”
“The seeds create a nuttiness and the laverbread's sourness an umami taste. A grown up and fresh cracker that is clean on the palate..... A welcome addition to any cheese board or as a health snack!”
What makes these crackers different?
Great flavour and sheer moreishness..try eating just one! There are no baffling ingredients , just wholesome goodness! They are packed with nutritious seeds. The seeded original is the perfect accompaniment to cheese, humous or just your favourite spread The flavoured crackers have all got a very high percentage of the particular ingredient added: Black olive , Laverbread and Tomato and herb all have a mild umami type taste, all great on their own or with a bit of butter or vegan spread. Delicious!
they may be small but certainly pack a mighty punch when it comes to nutrition. They have it all – high quality plant protein, unsaturated healthy fats, lots of fibre, rich in Vitamin K, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Manganese
Pumpkins are a complete protein in that they have all the essential amino acids. Sesame seeds, rich in Copper, Calcium, Zinc and Magnesium were used by the ancient Egyptians as a medicine. Linseeds ( also known as Flax) contain a plant chemical called Lignans which research shows that play a role in preventing certain types of cancer and reducing bad cholesterol, LDL

I have always had a passion and concern for the environment, long before it became a mainstream daily topic of debate. The natural world and biodiversity are day by day under greater threat from human actions
and business has a role to play in minimising the negative effects of our activities.
It is the aim of Hedyn Aur to produce delicious yet healthy and nutritious crackers while at the same time promoting local ingredients and minimising any waste that is produced. Our Packaging is entirely recyclable,
but best of all the inner plastic bag is compostabe! The bag is made in the UK from biodegradable cellulose derived from renewable wood pulp, They are also approved for Anaerobic digestion (ISO 15985) & Marine biodegradation ASTM D6691-09. The film has also tested to ensure that once composted there are no adverse effects on the plant growth.
What is Cellulose?
Cellulose is a substance from a plants cell wall, this can be extracted from waste plant material to produce the bio film used in these bags. Once used, these bags will biodegrade producing CO2 and H2O, these 2 compounds are combined with sunlight and converted into energy by plants in a process called photosynthesis.
The crackers are made in a kitchen that is fully powered by the energy of the sun
Ok so we don’t grow olives or sesame seeds in the UK.
We do, however, have some wonderful produce that you can enjoy in Hedyn Aur crackers
We use Selwyn’s laverbread, a type of seaweed and very typically Welsh.
Selwyn’s is a family run business based on the beautiful shores of the Gower Peninsula
Seaweed is known for its rich mineral & vitamin content, low in calories but big in taste
Rapeseed oil from Blodyn Aur, near Corwen in North Wales – completely Welsh grown, Welsh pressed and Welsh bottled! The oil is cold-pressed to protect and enhance the oil’s goodness and quality. It is rich in omega-3, vitamin E and with less than half the saturated fat of olive oil.
Organic flour from the UK, from Shipton Mill and Doves Farm . Shipton Mill in its traditional organic white flour, uses a rare variety of wheat called Maris Widgeon, with excellent flavour
Doves Farm, a family business based in Berkshire, they sowed their first seeds in 1977 with the simple idea of making great quality flour from their grains.
